Carol Wills, " A Deep Creek Lake Story That Touched My Heart! Happy 105 Mr. Friend!

Sometimes we see or read something that touches our hearts and makes us appreciate simplier times or things. This story about Mr. Friend turning 105 this month was one of those stories. I love it when he said he minded his mom and had a good wife. At 60 that takes me back to "good ole days' where folks slowed down to take time at the dinner table to share their day or have an evening around the family room playing games.  Mr. Friend appreciates the things we all take for granted. I loved this article and wanted to share. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. FRIEND!

Celebrates 105 Years
Hubert Friend, a res-ident of Goodwill Mennonite Home, celebrated his 105th birthday on Sunday, July 11. His longevity secret? "I minded my mother and I had a good wife." He was born and reared on a farm near Friendsville and was the youngest of eight children. He and his wife Hazel (who died in 2006) brought up their two daughters on the same farm. Friend served as a county commissioner for four years, but admits that he "liked farming much better." He said he enjoys daily visits from family and friends, and has an appreciation for the interaction he has with the staff of Goodwill. "Every year has been a good year," he said. "I have had a wonderful life. I have a warm place to sleep, plenty of food to eat, a wonderful family, and great people to take care of me. I have everything that I need."

Hanging Out At Deep Creek Lake On The New Canopy Tour

Your Flying Squirrel experience begins with a ride up the Bear Claw Conveyor Carpet.  After unloading, you'll begin the practice / training segment of the tour where you will learn to clip in and out, get comfortable in your harness and acclimate yourself to take flight!  Scurrying up the Cargo Net is the first challenge you'll face.  Once secured on the first platform, a 195-foot zip will send you to the next challenge - a Burma Bridge.  Navigate this 3-point rope bridge carefully to the next platform and prepare for the next zip which is approximately 153 feet.  Catch your breath and get ready to walk the plank - the Plank Bridge that is.  Once across, the next zip will transport you to the highest point of the course at approximately 50 feet high!  Views of Deep Creek Lake will appear in the distance and you'll face the longest of 2 zips in the tour that span 400 feet across the tubing hill into a thicket of pine trees.  Next you'll zip back across and land on the final stage, the 30-foot high Guard's Tower.  From here you will take the Leap of Faith back down to solid ground to complete the Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour at Wisp Resort!

Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour:  $39 pp
-Approximately 1.5 hour experience
-8 people in a group plus 2 guides (1 lead & 1 sweep)

Railey Realty and Carol Wills WISP RESORT HOME UNDER CONTRACT 28 DAYS

I had such a good response when I introduced 185 Sandy Shores that I would like to update you on the property. This property had been on the market for over a year with 1 or 2 showings. I helped the owners stage the property, took tons of photos highlighting its specail features and sold it in 28 days.  I worry about saying something has "sold" when it has not settled, so lets say it is under contract. Sometimes it is just luck to get a buyer so quickly but in this case I was told it came down to some really nice photos of the property.  The sellers are thrilled and as much as they are going to miss Deep Creek Lake, they are excited to be moving closer to family in Morgantown. If you would like to know more about this home check out http://www.RaileyRealtyatSandyShores.com

Deep Creek Lake Maryland is simply a great place to spend some vacation time. As a four season resort community that has a ski resort and beautiful lake, there is so many "toys" to enjoy. If you would like more information about our area, call or email me. I am never to busy to be of help.

Is There Really A Pot Of Gold At The End Of The Rainbow?

This is the second rainbow I have been able to capture this year. They are exciting for me and fun to track.  I sometimes wonder how the pharse "A Pot Of Gold At The End Of The Rainbow" began. So I Googled it and here is one answer.

Well, there aren't really pots of gold at the ends of rainbows. It was a European (location of Silesia) folk tale that angels and cupids came down and sat a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow for a man they believed deserved it. But there was a catch, only a nude man could obtain this pot of gold, no women, no child, only man. It was sent to be a prize, and it was indeed for the man who could obtain it."

Here is another just for fun!

"Among the most popular of beliefs about leprechauns is that they are extremely wealthy and like to hide their gold in secret locations which can only be revealed if a person were to capture and interrogate a leprechaun for its money. Another popular belief is that you may find a leprechaun and his pot of gold at the end of a rainbow."

Railey Realty and Carol Wills Present Whitewater Fun At Deep Creek Lake

The Whitewater course at Deep Creek Lake is such fun and a must try!  It is just another great reason to come to Deep Creek Lake and play!

Test your timing, reflexes and teamwork on the world's only adjustable whitewater sports venue that offers class I - IV whitewater in a "controlled" environment without typical river hazards such as downed trees (strainers), undercut rocks and places for foot entrapment. We do, however, educate you about those hazards for your overall knowledge of river safety, enjoyment and awareness.

ASCI's "conveyor" conveniently transports you from the finish pond to start pool, eliminating the hassles and time spent on vehicle shuttles from take-out to put-in with traditional whitewater experiences.

ASCI is a premier learning and training center for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Expert guides, instructors and former U.S. Team members on staff ensure high quality and consistent teaching methods.
